The Live it Foundation was pleased to again take part in the annual Belton 4th of July Parade. There was plenty of water this year. No, not being distributed to the parade watchers by Live it members, but rather falling from the sky in large drops called rain. That did not dampen our spirits however. With umbrellas in hand, members disbursed powdered lemonade drink mix as the bottled water distribution had become saturated by other organizations. Recipients were thrilled with the sweet surprise.

Along with our Segway-riding Uncle Sam and Statue of Liberty, Live it also had a vintage electric blue mustang in the parade. The '72 Mustang is owned by one of our members who also happens to be a Belton resident. He, his wife and two children waved and shared smiles as they drove along the route. And ultimately that was our goal for the day, our family serving and sharing with other local families, all in Christian love.

Counselors from 3 Killeen ISD elementary schools helped the Live it Foundation bring Christmas joy to 87 children this December. Donations purchased new winter coats, hats, and gloves, additional clothing, shoes, and toys. Several families were provided with needed groceries to help them make it through the month. In the true spirit of Christmas, one woman whose family was helped several years ago sent a generous donation to Live it to be used for Christmas gifts in gratitude for our assistance when her family needed it most. Live it would like to especially thank Brandi Carroll and Laura Dunnells of Cedar Valley Elementary for their tireless help in making sure that many children who weren’t expecting very much had a surprisingly wonderful Christmas.

Killeen Christmas Parade goers were just a little bit warmer on a cloudy and chilly Saturday, December 12. Thanks to the Live it Foundation, 25 gallons of free hot chocolate and French vanilla cappuccino were passed out to grateful and sometimes surprised parade goers. In addition, several cases of water were also distributed. This marked Live it’s fourth year of involvement with the city’s annual parade. As one board member reflected, “It’s fun to get in the Christmas spirit with a warm drink and a cool parade.”

Live it members and faithful volunteers headed to Belton, Texas bright and early and distributed 2,000 free bottles of water to spectators and participants at the annual Fourth of July parade. Parade attendees were delighted with both the chilled water and the colorful Live it wristbands that came with the bottles. This is the fourth year in a row that the Live it Foundation has given away water before the parade. We give water away freely just as Jesus freely gave for us. In additional to water distribution, two Live it members, donned in patriotic regalia, rode their Segways down the parade route. Let's just say Uncle Sam was really on the move! Visit our Flickr for photos of the event.

In 2008, USA Today named the Belton 4th of July Parade as one of the nation's "Top Ten Places to Fly Your Flag on the 4th" placing it in the ranks of the Washington D.C. Parade. The Live it Foundation will once again distribute free water bottles to thirsty parade spectators and participates. It's a refreshing way for us to remind others of the free gift of living water we can all receive if we just accept and believe. Wouldn't you love to start your Independence Day Holiday by spreading God's love? We need volunteers to pass out water up and down the parade route. The parade begins at 10:00 am but we usually start water disbursement around 8:00 am. Along with that "feel good" feeling that comes with volunteering, you also get a great Live it t-shirt. If you would like to volunteer, send your name and email address to volunteer@liveitonline.org. We will email you back with all the necessary details.

In the true spirit of March Madness, Tim Hawkin's "Three-peat" for our foundation scored big points with the fans. It was a fun-filled night that started with give-aways of DVDs, CDs, and Live it Foundation hoodies. As the evening progressed, Tim's quick wit and musical parodies sent the laughter into overtime. As we watched Tim sign autographs, smile for photos, and visit with the crowd, we knew that he definitely gave us another slam-dunk.
The Live it Foundation helped ease the pain of some area women and children for the third year in a row. Spending Valentine's Day in a local shelter is not the grandest way to celebrate the holiday. Festive bags filled with chocolates, red roses, and spa gifts were delivered for the women. The children received bubbles, toys, and of course, candy to help make the day special. Gift cards reminded the recipients that "Nothing can separate you from God's love" (Romans 8:39). And that is a promise worth celebrating, not only on Valentine's Day, but each and every day.

The Live it Foundation participated in their third annual Christmas Giveaway in December 2008. One part of the project involved buying coats, gloves, and scarves for students in need. The second part provided $100 Wal-Mart gift cards for families who needed a little extra help this Christmas.

This year the project was expanded to include a second elementary school. In all, Live it was able to provide winter wear for 69 children and 3 parents. Gift cards purchased clothes, shoes, toys, and stocking stuffers for 54 children. School staff members helped with shopping, gift-wrapping, and delivery of these presents.

In a letter to Live it, one school counselor wrote, "Many of the mothers cried, some couldn't even speak because they were so touched." Another said that she observed the faces of some of the parents when the gifts were delivered and couldn't describe their joy in words. Still another wrote, "I get very grumpy around this time of year because it is so commercialized and spending money on my family when they don’t really need anything is frustrating. Thank you for letting me be part of making a difference for families that really need the help."

For the third year in a row, the Live it Foundation distributed hot cocoa and cappuccino as the colorful parade passed by. As an additional treat, trademark “JUST LIVE IT” wristbands were given away to the children. Several inquiries were made as to the price of the drinks, to which our volunteers promptly replied, “Nothing.” Our goal was simply to spread Christmas cheer and remind others of God’s free gift to us. Each choir member needed to raise $2000 in order to make the performance at Carnegie Hall. Live it learned of a singer who needed a little assistance in reaching the goal. Our military representative shared her appreciation for Babies on Board and relayed this story to us: A private and his wife recently delivered pre-mature twins at Wilford Hall in San Antonio.
"Tanks" be to God from whom unleaded flows! That was the feeling at several local Mickey's/Chevron stations in Killeen this past Saturday, September 13th. Members of the Live it Foundation, sporting their logo on bright red shirts, randomly passed out gift certificates good for ten dollars worth of gas. Live it hoped to drive spirits upward by reminding recipients that God's love fuels everyone with caring. There were many loks of shock and disbelief, but in the end smiles and hugs prevailed. One recipient said, "Well, you can understand my surprise to pull up to a local gas station and have someone hand me a $10 free gas note. But when I looked at the shirt that was being worn, it all came clear. You guys are great and I pray that God blesses you and your ministry for him." And still another told us, "Thank you so much. It really goes a long way."

The Live it Foundation sends special thanks to Karen Walinder of Mickey's Enterprises for allowing us the use of their stations. Please watch our newsletters for upcoming projects. There's no telling where we'll be next!

Thanks to the Live it Foundation, students without lunch money at a local elementary school will be able to eat a regular meal in the school cafeteria instead of a sandwich "substitute" and milk.

Each student at school who eats cafeteria meals has a personal account into which parents deposit money. A student also has a number he or she uses each time lunch is purchased to deduct money from this account. Often, students do not let parents know they are getting low on money or have run out and need more deposited.

Now, when a student is out of money and doesn't realize it until lunchtime, the cafeteria manager can key into a special account created by Live it to provide for these emergencies. With every bottle also came an ever popular Live it wristband. For the first time, the Live it Foundation entered a float in the parade. The float was designed as a picnic scene to mean that everyone should "Just Live It" which is our motto referring to showing God's love in our everyday life. God's love is evident in family and friends spending time together on this special holiday honoring our country and the freedoms all of us hold dear.
On Saturday, March 15, comedian Tim Hawkins wowed a sellout crowd at Vive Les Arts Theatre in Killeen with his special brand of "comedy with an edge." The audience was treated to more than 90 minutes of hilarious song parodies, keen observations of family and church life, and other just plain funny stuff.

Before Tim came out on stage, Live it president Debbie King told the crowd to remember that laughter burns calories. Judging by the fantastic audience response, everyone left the show a whole lot thinner than when they came in. It was the second year in a row that the Live it Foundation brought Tim to Killeen and it probably won’t be the last.

God tells us in Proverbs 17:22 (NLT) that "a cheerful heart is good medicine."
For a second time, the Live it Foundation helped ease the pain of some area women and children. Seeking protection at a nearby shelter, they were not looking forward to celebrating a holiday - especially Valentine's Day. Festive bags, filled with chocolates, red roses, and spa gifts were delivered for the women. The children received art kits, toys, and of course, candy to help make the day special. Gift cards reminded the recipients that "Nothing can separate you from God's love" (Romans 8:39). And that is a promise that each of us can cherish on this day of love.

The Live it Foundation was again blessed to partner with Cedar Valley Elementary in making the holidays brighter for many local children. Under the coordination of Cedar Valley Counselor Brandi Carroll, new shoes, clothes, undergarments, stockings and, of course, toys were personally selected and waiting under the tree for these very deserving children. One mom said, “You really saved Christmas for our family!” Ms. Carroll explained, “The families we helped are loving families just having a tough time. The parents were completely overwhelmed and will be forever grateful. The families we helped are ones without expectations or demands for help, but only joy and thankfulness for what God has blessed them with.” May the joy of giving continue to be multiplied throughout the new year.

Imagine having no family. Add to that no money or home of your own. Worse still, you are in your last season of life. That's the description of about three dozen elderly in Monterrey, Mexico. Mercifully, a dear soul in Monterrey is providing a free nursing home facility to these elderly who were found just trying to survive on the streets. The Live it Foundation was asked to assist in providing supplies for the nursing home. Bed linens and bath towels for fifty will soon be on the way to Monterrey, as well as painting supplies to spruce up the exterior. Please pray as we follow the progression of this facility. We hope to be of more assistance in the future. "The King will reply, 'Truly I tell you, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me.'" (Matt. 25:40 TNIV)

UPDATE: You can now view photos from the Monterrey, Mexico Project here.

Live it members and volunteers bravely ignored the threat of rain and distributed 2000 free bottles of water to spectators at the Fourth of July parade in Belton. Parade-goers were delighted with both the water and the colorful Live it wristbands that came with the bottles. Also delightful was the fact that the predicted bad weather stayed away long enough for everyone to have lots of fun. This is the second year in a row that the Live it Foundation has given away water before the parade, and members hope to make it an annual event. While enjoying cold bottles of water on these hot days, remember that in John 4:14, Jesus says, “Those who drink the water I give will never be thirsty again…” (NLT). Fill yourself up with Jesus and thirst no more.

Comedian Tim Hawkins provided nonstop laughs for an appreciative crowd of over two hundred people at Vive Les Arts Theatre on Saturday, March 17. Tim entertained with family-friendly jokes, song parodies, crazy faces, and wild dances around the VLA stage for more than 90 minutes. After the concert, Tim talked with audience members, sold CD’s and DVD’s, and signed autographs. Many people expressed their delight with the show, thanking Live it for sponsoring the concert and begging us to bring him back again. One attendee said, "We recently lost a family member, so we really needed a laugh. It was so great to see my husband & son laugh again. Laughter is great medicine. It felt great to laugh myself!" Another mother commented, "My teenage daughters thought a Christian comedian would be boring. They are used to the "dirty jokes" kind of comedians they see with their father and stepmother. So imagine their surprise when they came to see Tim and had so much fun, they couldn't believe the show was already over. His songs were their favorite. But the "Rooty Tooty fresh and fruity" routine still makes us laugh as well as many other sketches. Thank you for bringing him here so my girls could see that "clean jokes" are just as good as the world's way, well maybe even better! Can't wait to see more family friendly events!"

Live it members were proud and happy to have Tim Hawkins perform in Killeen and hope to sponsor many more thrilling and fun concerts in the future.
Valentine’s Day - A day of kisses, hugs and all that love brings. However, some women and children were not “feelin’ the love” this holiday. They sought refuge in a local family shelter for reasons unfathomable to most of us. The Live it Foundation wanted to help ease their pain. Special gift packages, complete with roses and chocolates, were delivered to the women; while goodie bags stuffed with books, puzzles and a sweet treat, were sent for the children. With each gift a simple card was enclosed with the following thought:

Roses are red
Violets are blue
We want you to know
Jesus loves you!

The Live it Foundation desires that each recipient felt hope in the remembrance of Jesus Christ, the ultimate Valentine who says to everyone, “Be mine.”

Brandi Carroll, Counselor at Cedar Valley Elementary School, stated "Without your help we would never have been able to provide 28 children with new coats, shoes, clothes, undergarments, stockings, and toys. ...As the packages were delivered you could see the weight being lifted from the shoulders of the parents. They knew that their children could wake up on Christmas morning and gifts would be there for them to open. The children would be allowed to be children and not have to worry about the stressors around them."
